The Environmental Management System in ACS Dobfar

The adoption of an Environmental Management System (EMS) represents a voluntary response by organizations to the serious problems of pollution and deterioration of natural resources that have characterized and still characterize the global environmental scene in recent years.

ACS Dobfar S.p.A. for this reason, has equipped all its production sites with an EMS, certifying them according to the standards of the UNI-EN-ISO 14001 standard, consequently basing its production and operating processes in respect of the environment and with a view to sustainable development.

The standard is structured and organized according to the phases of the Deming circular model, also knows as PDCA: Plan, Do, Check and Act, with a view to continuous improvement, i.e. the process of increasing the EMS to obtain improvements in overall environmental performance, in accordance with the company’s environmental policy.

The environmental policy in fact represents the framework of the EMS and reflects the commitment of the top management to create the essential conditions for compliance with the law. It includes the commitment to continuous improvement and pollution prevention, it is the framework reference for establishing and reviewing environmental objectives and targets. The environmental policy is shared with all employees and is available to the public.

In addition to the environmental policy, the EMS is based on the following components:

  • The environmental and context analysis related to the production activities carried out in the plants. Through this analysis the most significant environmental aspects and risks were identified, on the basis of which an action plan for the achievement of improvement objectives was planned.
  • Adequate procedures and operating instructions which describe the responsibilities and tasks of the figures involved in the various activities in the environmental field (e.g. how to manage waste and who is responsible for it, how to control emissions into the atmosphere or water quality and the person responsible for it, how to intervene in cases of anomalous situations and who has to arrange the interventions, etc.);
  • A system for monitoring the relevant environmental results and controlling the progress of the environmental program (e.g. the quality of the discharged water, the use of energy and the quantities of waste produced are periodically checked, both through the analysis by specialized laboratories and by measuring instruments positioned in the different discharging points);
  • Training programs for all the plants personnel that are aimed at increasing the knowledge of production processes and their effects on the environment; in particular, personnel is made aware of the possible consequences regarding the risks associated with incorrect handling of the products and the consequences deriving from incorrect operations; In addition, emergency prevention and management exercises are performed;
  • An internal audit program to verify and ensure the correctness of the activities carried out in the environmental field and to periodically assess both the implementation status of the Environmental Management System and the environmental efficiency of the Plants. The results that emerge from internal audits are regularly discussed in meetings with the Top Management.

The environmental management system in ACS Dobfar therefore has its roots, on one hand, in the commitment that the company places in developing its production activities in compliance with environmental needs and, on the other, in transparency towards the community and collaboration with the Public Administration.

ACS Dobfar is aware that the environment is everyone’s heritage and that, only with the participation of all the social and productive components, its conservation can be really pursued.

ACS Dobfar in its daily commitment intends to act with ever more professionalism, competence, innovative technologies, but also dedication, good will, patience, and humility.
